It’s a feat in itself that someone put this together, 100% credit goes to Actualidad Simpsons, a Simpsons fan site.

Most ideas in the Simpsons are not original inharantly because of it’s subject matter; “The Simpsons is a satirical parody of the middle class American lifestyle” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Simpsons) and is (or was originally) aimed at that same demographic. Looking through this list you can really see how many complete concepts have been appropriated along with subtle short isolated references. It’s interesting just how ingrained in our minds popular culture is and always anchoring narratives to this seems to comfort us even when used for satire. It’s also interesting that people prefer this even when repetative compared to new and different concepts. It’s nothing new noticing this (look at formulaic Hollywood - and it’s been that way since before I was born) but when does adapting become copying? I think the accepted current notion is that as long as it’s not exactly the same, it’s ok and this attitude is present all across the media industry, but it is a relatively new attitude. We seem to have so sucessfully defined every aspect of a narrative and most types of media output that we can construct complete end products in a modular way and are taught as such, and this of course has the same effect as everyone just eating sweetcorn; we get a load of shit we’ve seen before even if it smells kinda fresh.
